Leader Hints are designed to help guide a leader to some information that we want to “tease” out of the group. They are not there for you to directly read to the participants. People are significantly more likely to remember things they said or came up with, so your goal is to help direct them to that answer.
FINAL NOTE: Our goal is to get to the [APPLICATION QUESTION] to help work with people through how to apply what God is doing in their life.
INTRO:
- Icebreaker: Do you prefer a corn maze or a haunted house?
REBUILD THE SERMON:
- Work together to rebuild the sermon as a group.
- Understanding the Afterlife: What are some common misconceptions about what happens to Christians after they die? How do these compare to the biblical descriptions Kent brought up?
- Biblical Interpretation: How do you feel about the ground rules Kent set about biblical clarity, interpretation, and opinion? Why is it important to distinguish between these?
- Final Resting Place: Read Revelation 21:1-3, what is the nature of the new heaven and new earth? How does this differ from the traditional view of heaven?
- Judgment and Forgiveness: How does the imagery of the book of life and the lake of fire in Revelation 20:11-15 impact your understanding of judgment and forgiveness? What emotions does this passage evoke in you?
- Interim State of the Dead: What does the Bible say about the state of Christians who have already died, specifically with Paul’s writings in Philippians 1:21-24 and 2 Corinthians 5:1-8?
- Observing the Living: Do you think the dead are aware of or care about what happens on earth? Do passages like Revelation 6:9-10 and Hebrews 12:1 help your conviction?
Application Question:
- How does your understanding of the afterlife and judgment influence your daily life and decisions?
- Take up prayer requests and pray together.
