Leader Hints are designed to help guide a leader to some information that we want to “tease” out of the group. They are not there for you to directly read to the participants. People are significantly more likely to remember things they said or came up with, so your goal is to help direct them to that answer.
FINAL NOTE: Our goal is to get to the [APPLICATION QUESTION] to help work with people through how to apply what God is doing in their life.
INTRO:
- Icebreaker: What are your thanksgivings plans?
REBUILD THE SERMON:
- Work together to rebuild the sermon as a group.
- How do you typically respond to stressful situations—like the tornado example given? Do you tend to seek shelter or face the storm head-on?
- The sermon mentions two types of people regarding anxiety: those gripped by it and those affected by it. Which category do you identify with, and why?
- Can you share a personal experience where you felt reasonable anxiety, like a child climbing a tree or flashing lights while driving?
- How do you recognize when your anxiety response is disproportionate to the situation? What signs do you look for?
- The sermon describes feeling overwhelmed in social situations or by deadlines. How do these descriptions resonate with your own experiences of gripping anxiety?
- If you are someone who is affected by others’ anxiety, how do you typically respond? What strategies have you found helpful or unhelpful?
- The sermon references several scriptures about anxiety and God’s peace. Which of these scriptures speaks to you the most, and how can it help you in moments of anxiety?
Application Question:
- What practical steps can you take this week to manage your anxiety or support someone else who is struggling with it?
- Take up prayer requests and pray together.
