Leader Hints are designed to help guide a leader to some information that we want to “tease” out of the group. They are not there for you to directly read to the participants. People are significantly more likely to remember things they said or came up with, so your goal is to help direct them to that answer.
FINAL NOTE: Our goal is to get to the [APPLICATION QUESTION] to help work with people through how to apply what God is doing in their life.
INTRO:
- Icebreaker: What has been your favorite memory from group this semester?
REBUILD THE SERMON:
- As a group, rebuild the story of God and how we got to this point.
- Also, rebuild this specific story on how the Kingdom of Israel split into Israel and Judah.
- Reflecting on the story of Jeroboam and Rehoboam, how do you see the tension between self-gratification and servanthood play out in their decisions?
- In the Bible, we see a recurring theme of leaders who turn away from God’s ways to pursue their own desires. What are some common pitfalls that leaders face today that might lead them astray?
- Read Matthew 11:28-30 and Matthew 20:28.
- How does Jesus’ invitation to take His yoke and learn from Him contrast with this story? What does this reveal about the nature of true leadership and service?
- It’s the last week of Encounter! Did this semester meet your expectations? What were your expectations?
- What aspects do we need to keep for next semester?
- What aspects do we need to change?
- If anyone would like to submit their answers anonymously, you can email them to alec.lewis12@gmail.com
Application Question:
- Think about a recent decision where you had to choose between prioritizing your own desires or serving others? Reflect on how you approached this decision versus Jesus’ example of servant leadership.
- Take up prayer requests and pray together.
