Leader Hints are designed to help guide a leader to some information that we want to “tease” out of the group. They are not there for you to directly read to the participants. People are significantly more likely to remember things they said or came up with, so your goal is to help direct them to that answer.
FINAL NOTE: Our goal is to get to the [APPLICATION QUESTION] to help work with people through how to apply what God is doing in their life.
INTRO:
- Icebreaker: What is your favorite Rom-Com movie?
REBUILD THE SERMON:
- Why do you think the idea of “you’ll just know” when you’re in love is so prevalent in our culture?
- What are some potential dangers of believing in concepts like “finding the one” or “soulmates”?
- In what ways can deeply held beliefs about love impact our behavior in relationships?
- How does the biblical definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 differ from the world’s view of love?
- Go through the verses 4-8 one at a time and reflect as a group how you’ve seen this type of love played out.
- 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
- 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
- 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
- 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
- 8 Love never fails
- Why is it important to recognize the difference between love and lust in relationships?
- What challenges might arise when trying to practice the kind of love described in 1 Corinthians 13 in a marriage or relationship?
- How can understanding God’s love for us, as described in Romans 5:8, help us love others better? Do we love others “while they are still sinners”?
Application Question:
- Reflect on your own beliefs about love and relationships. How can you align your understanding and actions with the biblical definition of love? What practical steps can you take to demonstrate this kind of love in your daily life and relationships?
- Take up prayer requests and pray together.
