Leader Hints are designed to help guide a leader to some information that we want to “tease” out of the group. They are not there for you to directly read to the participants. People are significantly more likely to remember things they said or came up with, so your goal is to help direct them to that answer.
FINAL NOTE: Our goal is to get to the [APPLICATION QUESTION] to help work with people through how to apply what God is doing in their life.
INTRO:
- Welcome back! What are you looking to get out of group this semester?
- Reflect on last week’s application question: Would anyone like to share any concrete steps they took to show trust in God in a particular are of your life?
REBUILD THE SERMON:
- Read Genesis 26:2-6, focusing on verse 4. (God also repeats this promise in verses 23-25.) Can someone set the stage and remind us who Isaac is as and why he is called the Child of Promise?
- Vulnerability and Posturing: Have you ever found yourself posturing or trying to impress someone to cover up feelings of insecurity or inadequacy? How did that experience make you feel, and what did you learn from it?
- The Insignificant Significant: Reflect on the concept of being “insignificantly significant” as applied to Isaac’s life. In what ways do you think Isaac’s life seems insignificant, and how does the significance of his role become evident when considering his descendants, particularly in the context of Jesus?
- God’s Promises and Our Posture: Explore the passage from Genesis 26:2-10, where God promises to bless Isaac and his descendants. Despite this promise, Isaac still lies out of fear. How does this reflect the tension between God’s promises and our human tendencies to posture or protect ourselves?
- Faithfulness in Small Things: The sermon emphasizes the idea that God often works through us, not just to us. How can faithfulness in small, seemingly insignificant actions contribute to something greater in the long run? Can you think of examples from your own life or the lives of others?
- Impact of Small Interactions: Reflect on a time when a seemingly insignificant interaction with someone else had a lasting impact on you or them. It could be a small gesture, a kind word, or even a brief encounter. Was that lasting impact revealed right away or in the future? How did that interaction influence your perspective or theirs? What does this reveal about the potential significance of seemingly minor moments in our interactions with others?
Application Question:
- Considering the theme of significance in seemingly small actions, what is one area in your life where you can commit to being faithful, even if it feels insignificant right now? How might your faithfulness in that area contribute to a larger purpose or plan in the future?
- Take up prayer requests and pray together.
