INTRO:
- What is your favorite seasoning and what does that tell us about you as a person? Look way more into this than is reasonable.
- Did anyone work on last weekās application question? What is one tangible way you can practice viewing your time, treasure, or talents as opportunities for God to work?
REBUILD THE SERMON:
- Did anything stand out to you from the sermon?
- Read Matthew 5:13-16
- Does anyone know the immediate context of these verses?
LH: Jesus is teaching the disciples in front of a large crowd in the sermon on the mount. This is just after the beatitudes at the start of the sermon. - Why do you think Jesus uses the terms salt and light to describe his disciples?
- Do you think he was talking about everyone or just his core group?
- Refer to Colossians 4:6. When Paul says let your conversations be seasoned with salt, give some examples of what he means.
LH: We fill out conversations the way Jesus would, referring to scripture, being honest, having a servant mindset, loving others. - Does this describe you?
- Pull up John 8:12. What does walking with Jesus and having the light of life look like to someone externally?
- Does this describe you?
- Do your versions of salt and light show that you belong to him?
- Kent was careful not to put the cart in front of the horse. He said your belief will drive your behavior, NOT your behavior is proof of your belief. How does that resonate with you?
Application Question:Ā
- What tangible reminders can you put in your day to be reminded that you are salt and light and you belong to Him?
- Take up prayer requests and pray as a group.
