Who Was John the Baptist?

The Forerunner of Christ

John the Baptist was a unique and wild figure in the Bible, known for his fierce and fearless dedication to God. Even before his birth, John was preparing the way for Jesus. When Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visited her cousin Elizabeth, who was also pregnant with John, the baby John leaped in Elizabeth’s womb, recognizing the presence of the Savior (Luke 1:41-44).

A Voice in the Wilderness

John’s ministry was marked by his call to repentance and baptism. He lived in the Judean wilderness, a harsh and desolate place, yet people from all over came to hear his message. John baptized with water, but he always pointed to the one who would come after him, Jesus, who would baptize with the Holy Spirit (Mark 1:1-4).

The Humility of John the Baptist

Knowing His Role

John’s humility is perhaps his most striking characteristic. Despite his popularity and the large crowds that followed him, John understood that his role was to prepare the way for Jesus. 2. Do a Prayer Challenge at Work: Let your colleagues know you’re taking on a personal prayer challenge and invite them to share any prayer requests they might have.

3. Daily Devotions with Your Kids: Read a chapter from the Book of John each day and discuss it with your family.

4. Start a Bible Study at Work: Find a time that works for your colleagues and invite them to join you in studying the Bible.

5. Send Encouraging Texts: Forward daily scriptures to friends and family, offering them encouragement and a reminder of God’s love.
